BEYOND CORNER GAS

Celebrity Fred Ewanuick plays the social gadfly -- travelling to Climax, Sask., to meet fans, judge a pie-baking contest and drop the chicken into a poop-pool pen -- in one-hour documentary Beyond Corner Gas: Tales From Dog River. The doc looks at the impact the CTV series -- more specifically fans of the series -- have had on the tiny town of Rouleau, Sask., and nearby burgs.
There's the Rouleau woman who opened a cafe and gift shop in the Dog River municipal building to cater to tourists. And we meet the mayor of Climax, whose town put up a plot of land and "tacky" house for an online contest two years ago, thinking the winner would never take up residence.
Then we meet the Quebec couple who won the house and lot, moved to Climax and, just this summer, hosted a weekend celebration for Corner Gas chatline regulars, including a Manitoba couple. Man, we've gotta get with that Interweb.

Season 3 of CTV's runaway hit sitcom Corner Gas began on Monday. But this Saturday, the network will air Beyond Corner Gas: Tales From Dog River, a one-hour documentary special that will look behind the scenes at the surprise comedy success.
Viewers will be introduced, for example, to Kerri, a woman from the real Dog River -- Rouleau, Sask. -- who has opened up her own version of the show's Ruby cafe.
Then there's the Corner Gas Gang, a group of fans who met through the show's online chat room, to say nothing of Claire, operator of the Dog River Express, a guided tour of Rouleau. Of course, star Brent Butt and the cast will make an appearance.
